{"id":5062,"date":"2021-12-31T21:13:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-31T21:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mediaofthings.co.uk\/?p=5062"},"modified":"2021-12-31T21:13:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-31T21:13:36","slug":"visiting-craven-cottage-home-of-fulham-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediaofthings.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/12\/31\/visiting-craven-cottage-home-of-fulham-fc\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Craven Cottage \u2013 home of Fulham FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Emdad Rahman<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>I HAD BEEN communicating with Ed for a while in the hope of visiting this historic ground and taking part in the stadium tour of London\u2019s oldest club.\u00a0I got there in the end, and it was well worth the wait.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26201\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-4.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26201\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26201\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-4.jpeg?resize=250%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Emdad Rahman at the stadium<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fulham Football Club may be down the pecking order, what with the capital boasting an array of glitzy big name clubs, but there\u2019s no doubting the authenticity and feel of this iconic ground.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to #bookbikelondon and my trusty Santander Cycle I was able to make it almost on time, dashing from Parsons Green and cycling through the \u201cGreen Mile\u201d across the lovely Bishops Park.\u00a0At the Johnny Haynes statue I met tour hosts Christian and Brendan and fellow guests, including Sunderland fans recovering from the League Cup beating from the night before at the Emirates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Johnny Haynes is unanimously accepted as the club\u2019s greatest player. The stylish inside forward played 56 times for England, 22 games as captain.\u00a0The \u201cMaestro\u201d was a one-club man, and he holds the all-time appearance record and led the club scoring charts until Gordon Davies overtook him during the end of the \u201980s.\u00a0Pele described the Fulham legend as the best passer of the ball he\u2019d ever seen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26199\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-1.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26199\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26199\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-1.jpeg?resize=500%2C301&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>A quirky view of the famous turf<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We were treated to pitch-side views and witnessed the impressive work taking place on the Riverside Stand and Development, which will create a new, vibrant, modern and outstanding riverfront destination.\u00a0The Cottage itself is a true landmark, and along with the Johnny Haynes Stand it is a designated Grade II listed building. It remains among the great sights in football \u2013\u00a0 a testament to Archibald Leitch\u2019s skills. The Cottage Pavilion also includes the manager\u2019s game day office, changing rooms, a restaurant and a balcony from where the more wealthy guests can enjoy the game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We visited both home and away dressing rooms and were reminded of the greats who had sat within them ahead of gracing the turf on matchday: Haynes, Bobby Moore, George Best, George Cohen and Edwin Van Der Sar.\u00a0The small but classy VIP area was next, and we were told the lounge had been refurbished at a cost of \u00a31 million in the last few years.\u00a0This is an authentic Stadium and even though it was empty the atmosphere felt like there was still a crowd inside. It\u2019s tight and compact, it\u2019s homely and charming.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26200\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-2.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26200\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26200\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Fulham-2.jpeg?resize=500%2C284&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26200\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Dreaming of a new job, Em?<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The tour commenced at a steady pace, and the hosts are informative and easy to understand.
