It remains to be seen whether the \u201crevising chamber\u201d of Parliament will amend it before it returns to the Commons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Bill is supposed to lay down a new immigration system for the post-Brexit UK. Home Secretary Priti Patel has said that it will help the UK \u201ctake full control of its borders\u201d by putting in place a \u201cfirm but fair\u201d asylum system . However, there is widespread concern that it is far too draconian and unfair. The Law Society says it believes that the Bill contains \u201ca number of measures which are, or are likely to be, incompatible with international law [and] damage access to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the elements of the Bill causing concerns are:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2022<\/span>it introduces a two-tier system for asylum seekers;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2022<\/span>it allows the Government to deprive a person of their British citizenship without giving them notice;<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2022<\/span>it makes arriving in the UK without permission a new criminal offence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The East London Mosque spoke for many East Londoners just before Christmas, when it added its name to a short statement entitled \u201cThreat to citizenship is against British values\u201d, which has been signed by a number of mosques and community organisations. You can read this statement here:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastlondonmosque.org.uk\/news\/threat-to-citizenship-is-against-british-values\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Statement<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two Tower Hamlets MPs have also responded to the Bill \u2013 in rather different ways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2022<\/span><strong>Apsana Begum<\/strong>, Labour MP for Poplar &amp; Limehouse, tabled two amendments to the Bill and spoke about them in the Bill\u2019s Second Reading in the House of Commons. One of the amendments would have abolished the \u201cno recourse to public funds\u201d condition applied to migrants.
