The Metropolitan Police have just announced that 16 people were arrested in Tower Hamlets and Hackney during a recent \u201chit day\u201d, bringing total arrests to 145 since March 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When you stop to consider the statistic, which comes out of the Metropolitan Police\/Councils \u201cOperation Continuum\u201d, it does give cause for concern. Tower Hamlets and Hackney have a combined population of around 600,000: 145 is a such a small percentage that most calculators probably can\u2019t be bothered to work it out.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_25373\" style=\"width: 135px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Drugs-TH-H-LR.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25373\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25373\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eastlondonnews.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Drugs-TH-H-LR.jpg?resize=125%2C147&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25373\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Lutfur Rahman ran the &#8220;Dealer a Day&#8221; scheme<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In absolute numbers, the result is disappointing too. When Lutfur Rahman was the Directly Elected Mayor of Tower Hamlets, his Administration worked with the local police and others to arrest \u201ca dealer a day\u201d \u2013 and that was just in Tower Hamlets.\u00a0 Reaching 145 arrests in a population of 600,000 is not an advance on arresting 365 drug dealers from a population of 300,000.
