She told her story on this week\u2019s <em>The Tuesday Show<\/em>, a local news magazine programme streamed live on the VodTalk Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dawn told how she visited the store this week and saw that shop staff were not limiting numbers of shoppers coming into the store, with the result that the shop became very full. This made it impossible for shoppers to observe any kind of social distancing.\u00a0 In addition, around half the customers going into the shop were not wearing face coverings and staff were not asking them to do so. Around half of the staff were not wearing masks either.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As she neared the till, Dawn was horrified to see that a customer in the queue in front of her was asked by the cashier to move closer to the till. Dawn was a Tower Hamlets Council Covid Champion, and she felt compelled to speak out and ask the cashier to let customers keep their distance. She received a very rude response.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The studio guest on the broadcast \u2013 Maium Miah Talukdar, who chairs the Island Network, an umbrella group of community organisations in E14 \u2013 was horrified to hear Dawn\u2019s report. \u201cThe behaviour of staff in the Iceland store is completely unacceptable,\u201d he said. \u201cWe expect local supermarkets to be Covid aware, to protect shoppers and to allow them to take safety measures themselves. Is the NHS going to have to pick up the casualties from this supermarket\u2019s casual attitude towards public safety?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the broadcast, a listener called in to say that he had also experienced safety lapses in the shop and he intended to make a complaint.\u00a0 A second listener posted further confirmation on social media that the shop is regularly far too full.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have written to Iceland\u2019s head office,\u201d said Maium Miah Talukdar, \u201casking them to investigate what is going on at this store and to make the necessary improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dawn Gilfoyle has reported the store to the police for investigation for potential breach of Covid rules.\u00a0 Sadly, this is not the end of the story.\u00a0 Two days after her appearance on <em>The Tuesday Show<\/em>, Dawn\u2019s mother went to the same store.
